Prospecting on Mars

We have recently added a new feature to our Life on Mars sim that allows you to wander around the red planet and look interesting features and rocks that have been analysed by one of the Mars rovers. Touching on one of these will produce a notecard containing a brief description along with web links for more detailed information; very much kind of Sl web quest approach. You will also see from the screen shot that we have also included a Mars globe with pin marker for the location. Feel free to teleport over and explore any time, Aso

Red Drone Dalek

As Daleks continue to be such a popular feature of the sim here at Spaceport Uk, I decided that it was maybe time to add a new member to their number. The image here shows the new Red Drone Dalek and is based on the new generation of Daleks. Whole I have tried to maintain a low prim biuld the smallest count that I seemed to be able to achive was 38 prims. The Red Drone Dalek is unscripted the full copy and mod permissions so plenty of opportubnioty for new owners to make modifications and changes. If you would like a copy for your own sim then simply visit the SL Marketplacehttps://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/Red-Drone-Dalek/3993361

Leviathan of Parsonstown

Here at Spaceport UK we have decided to expand our virtual facility by introducing the sky platform. Of a regular basis, we shall be featuring famous Observatories and their telescopes and we start with the Leviathan of Parsonstown. You can Teleport to the skyplatform from the landing point, and upon arrival will be offered a Notecard that covers the background of the telescope along with a number of web links. Taking a walk around the observatory you will get a real feel for the sheer size of the undertaking, we include a number of other Notecards for your interest, that you can acquire simply by touching on different features. We certainly hope that you enjoy this new aspect to a SIM and please feel free to feedback any comments.

UK Rocket Park

Anytime that you are in Second Life you may like to Teleport over to SpaceportUk and view our UK Rocket Park. All of the exhibits feature a info-board that will take you to web content featuring text, images and where available video-clips of launches and firings. And to get you as emersed as possible, each of our rockets will perform a simulated takeoff when Touched. So if Woomera Austarilia is just to far away for a field trip, then why not stay in your armchair and take the full virtual experience.

Astro Wednesday going strong

Today marked the twelfth meeting of the lunchtime Astro-Wednesday club. The students numbers while remaining much the same to these little gatherings are spreading out across a wider set of groups. Today we looked in some depth at the constellation of Draco in operatically some of the many deep sky objects like M13 that are readily accessible to small telescope. Speaking of which, none of the group have yet managed to assemble one of the small kits that I handed out a short while ago, and so I suggested that we come in over break and spend a half day, it seemed to go down very well. This was followed by a usual start of month look at what is coming in the night sky from morning and evening planets to some of the other star groups. Conversation broke into looking at space art, which is I feel an area of the whole subject that few seem to appreciate, but one of the group had found a web link and we spent some time looking at the various impressions. One particularly interesting audio slide show on the BBC news site featured Plasma from the sun, which tied in very nicely with our recent talks on space weather. Though the students sport an empressive array of mobile devices and the equally impressive astro apps that are appearing for them, the popularity of laminated cards are certainly proving to hold there own special attraction!

Expanding the library

I was looking around the library resources here at Spaceport UK the other day, basically just making sure that all the links were still working OK, and why I had not realised this before, but part of the facility is a place that could serve the port really well. From the start I had always tried to populate it with new and interesting space related materials, which I must say that until, now has only amounted to four or five books. Anyway I started to trawl around for some new material and naturally there is a wealth of possibilities out there. Some of the new books are just reviews, not the whole deal, but even so there is plenty of good reading in them. I have included some links to websites as well. I currently have a lot more resources ready to go into place, so its just a matter of time, so please stay in touch and feel free to post a comment to this blog or IM in-world with your views and preference.

still enjoying the latest incarnation, Aso

Sales Sky Platform

As well as having all of our products available on Sl Market place, we thought it would be an equally good idea to have those same items in-world, and so the Sales Sky Platform. Visitors can wander around and browse in the high altitude forest. As well being able to purchase all of our items in this way, visiting avatars can also stand at the rail and get a preview of our solar homes. Each home will appear on a cycle and becuase they are temporary, this means they will only stay in existence for around 40 seconds or so. The big advantage for us in all this of course is that when an object is rezzed that is temporary it does not contribute to the overall prim count, nice little touch we thought. So the next time that you are over at Spacport UK please take the time and have a browse, of course if you have any questions then please do not hesitate to IM me Aso Galicia, here at Spaceport UK.

Bye for now
